American Idol WANTS YOU BACK!

And here’s what they’re going to do to get you…

American Idol is in trouble. They’re not going to tell you this, but it’s pretty bad.

This picture above is one of the many reasons why. Since Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul left the show, they’ve had trouble reaching the heights they were at 5-7 years ago. J-Lo and Steven Tyler did a great job in bringing them back, but the show still wasn’t magical in the way it had been. Something was off.

Compounding the problem is, overall, the ratings have continually fallen season after season. But Idol has a plan (as they did last year…) on how to bring you back. Here’s what they have planned…

FIRST – the new judging panel.

This year’s judging panel is intelligent, personable, successful and RELATABLE – something that last year’s was sorely lacked in. They won’t be prone to caddie arguments or back biting which totally derailed entire episodes during the Nicki Minaj-Mariah Carey experiment and they’ll be able to offer constructive and trustworthy analysis to the contestants and audiences alike.

SECOND – Randy Jackson is STILL involved!

Randy Jackson

It’s hard to say whether Randy Jackson is a fan favourite or not – he’s always been there. You don’t see a lot of people starting Randy Jackson fan-clubs or bringing “We <3 Randy” signs into the audience… but that doesn’t mean he’s not an important piece. In fact, it’s because he’s been there all these years that he’ll likely be great in his new role as a coach for the contestants. The word is, he’ll give them hints on how to take care of their voices and how to pick the right songs to make an impact on the judges and audience.

goodluck

They’ll also stay away from doing the “Golden Oldie” songs they’ve been leaning on for years (Who wants to hear “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” again? ANYONE?) and they’ll have something called Rush Week… which sounds like a really interesting title but when I tried to research it the results were not interesting at all. The idea is…
- 15 male and 15 female remaining contestants will all sing
- the field will be narrowed down to 13 male and 13 female contestants during the next results show
…and that’s it. My guess is they’ve got something to add to that week which they’re not telling us so we’ll be surprised when it runs, or at least I hope they do for their sake.

So knowing this – will American Idol get you back? Do you care?
